Overview
The prediction page displays the map to the right of, or below, the
GUI controls, depending on browser size and orientation. The map is
zoomable, and pannable when zoomed, using mouse wheel and pointer
drag, or (on mobile or touch devices) pinch-zoom and touch drag.
The
+/
- (plus/minus) keys also zoom.
Auto-refresh
Weather imagery is automatically refreshed by default (unless
changed in
settings), so the page does
not need to be manually reloaded to get up-to-date imagery.
Auto time seek
Event time is the fixed
date and time set for the prediction's event to occur, typically the
geocentric midtime. It varies for each prediction, and is indicated
by a star
on buttons and widgets. On
initial load, the map will automatically show the weather at event
time if possible, i.e. if it is within the range of the default
forecast. (A star
with tick pointing to
event time, will also be shown beneath the imagery slider if event
time is in range.) The event time button
(or
e key) can also be pressed to set the displayed time
range to event time (or as close as possible); see the
Imagery Date/Time help page.
Widgets
Many widgets have a brief tooltip that pops up when they are
hovered over. This may give help and/or status on the item. This
includes some non-clickable items, like the now
and event time
icons under the
imagery slider.
Buttons are white on blue when they are selected/on:
They are black on white when they are unselected/off:
Pop-up dialogs can be dismissed by clicking the
X at
upper right (if available), pressing
Esc, or clicking on
the page outside the popup.
Bookmarks
Most GUI selections are stored in the URL anchor
(the
#... part). This means that a particular
provider/region/time etc. can be selected and the URL bookmarked or
shared, and those selections will be restored on revisit. However,
this will override the default provider/region auto-selection, which
might otherwise change later as event time draws near; see
Imagery Type. Note that making a change to
any GUI
element that is stored in the URL anchor, will then
store
all storable GUI selections in the anchor.
E.g. changing the
Duration will also store the current
provider/region in the URL, overriding its possible new default
later.
